The dramatic program of the 77th Dubrovnik Summer Festival is exceptionally rich and varied. In addition to exciting guest appearances and favorite reruns, it will offer festival audiences a continued exploration and development of dynamic co-production and ambient concepts, as well as major premieres. The second drama premiere will be a co-production of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, and the Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin — William Shakespeare’s Richard III, directed by Vito Taufer and staged at the Lovrjenac Fortress. At its core is the story of the rise and fall of an ambitious, immoral individual who reaches power through deceit, manipulation, and violence. The greater his power becomes, the more numerous his crimes and enemies are, and the more inevitable the outcome.
